a10studio winter playlist

// december 4, 2014 //

a10-studio-office-Mexico-City-Cabo-Baja-winter-architectureWe feel lucky and thankful that we develop most of our work from our privileged location in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, where we are spoiled with a fantastic weather all year round, plus the beach and waves of Baja are just a couple of streets away and a constant source of inspiration.

But despite all of this we also work hard and spend (against popular beliefs) many hours inside the office designing, thinking, drawing, modeling, re-shaping, re-thinking, etc..  During winter, when we see photos of snow and our friends tell us stories of a white Christmas, a certain nostalgia takes over the office. We don’t all observe the same traditions, enjoy the same dishes, or even call the winter holidays by the same names, but surely we share an appreciation of how these festive times pull us together. Thoughts of cold winter, snow and festive times spent with friends around the world and our family’s holiday home cooked meals keep our hearts warm until the next get-together.

I was born in a large city and after switching continents a couple of times I’m now living in a small town. And while both landscapes have their advantages, small town and arid landscapes have brought along new knowledge and experiences, that I could never have learned by living in a capital with several million residents. Especially when perceiving how nature and landscape behave in heavy populated and less populated areas. In this arid Baja landscape, that I now call home, I learned that the starts routinely cover the night skies like glitter, that the moon can light up a path with such a glow similar to an electric bulb, and that a winter season doesn’t bring snow, but a pod of whales who travel to Baja’s warm waters all the way from Alaska… Each day brings new discoveries, which keep my soul warm, alive and intrigued. City landscapes, on the other hand, seem deceptive from where I stand now. At the seams are glimmers of nature; its dwellers enforce a peace in their lives by seeking out these crevices to create warm and most welcoming moments. These moments are a cure for the common way of life.

No matter how wild a beast, all creatures have to take rest, retreat and seek calm.

As an early Christmas gift from us at a10studio to you, we are sharing with you this small soul soothing playlist of songs and tunes, hoping that the tunes that have been lately keeping our souls warm during long working hours in the office, can bring you some of the Cabo sun to your (perhaps) colder winter nights. We wish you happy holidays!
